Aman Kumar

On 31 March 2023, we lost Prof. Rahmatullah Khan. Prof. Khan was one of the leading scholars of international law from India. He was born in the year 1934 in Andhra Pradesh and throughout his career, was associated with all the widely known Indian institutions working on international law. He did his PhD at the Indian School of International Studies, under Nagendra Singh (former judge at the International Court of Justice). He joined Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) as an Associate Professor and was also associated with the Indian Law Institute and the Indian Society of International Law.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers Association issued a statement on his passing, recognizing his immense contribution to the field of international law. Prof. (Dr.) Bharat H. Desai, Chairperson – Centre for International Legal Studies at JNU, gave a presentation celebrating the important works of Prof. Khan.

Continuing that celebration, the Indian Blog of International Law is hosting this symposium. In the next few days, the blog will publish academic and personal pieces written either on Prof. Khan or on his contribution to the field of international law.
